WELCOME TO THE ORGANIC WARRIORS.

WHAT IS THIS SITE ABOUT?

This site is an information store of our journey of discovery from average, everyday, blinkered supermarket / shopping centre shoppers, complete with not a care in the world or thought for what we were buying, to beginning to take note and questioning what is in the products we use everyday and what effects the ingredients contained within may potentially be having on our health.

At its very core this site is about HEALTH. Both yours and ours. You CAN “Get Back To Natural” and it behooves you to do so. We believe that the less nasty crap in the form of questionable chemicals in your day-to-day life, the more your health will benefit. We also believe, and have anecdotal evidence, that some current health problems can be reversed and even disappeared if a person is willing to make a few lifestyle changes.

This is a seemingly unpopular thing to point out to people at this time in history. Many people will roll their eyes or shout us down for making the above statements. Cynicism is at an all-time high, just as it always has been!

But it is, none the less, true. We believe you will save money in the long run because you will be less likely to be paying exorbitant medical bills to rescue your health in the future or your old age. We also believe, and have anecdotal evidence, that many health problems can not only be reversed but disappeared altogether.

The “Big Players” in the supermarkets will soon be forced to embrace this trend or risk their entire business models disappearing all together. Average people are beginning to be fed up with the lies and disregard for their health which has been the standard of the Big Boys until now.

WHO IS THIS SITE FOR?

We believe we have a responsibility to make average people, just like us, aware of and, hopefully, change their product choices from the sub-standard ones most commonly available, to organic and natural products.

This site is for anyone who has had the same niggling questions as we did in the back of their minds. Who, in passing, may have heard stories about this chemical being in that food and wondered “could that really be true?”

This site is for those who have considered using natural products but may have heard, or have had past experiences that have led them to believe they don’t work effectively.

Our hope for you is that we can truly bring you some kind of knowledge that you come to regard as being valuable to you, either immediately, or at some time in the future.

You will notice that we end all of our blogs with the same tree hugging hippie statement.

Why have we chosen to do that? Because we truly want that goal for us all and we believe that choosing organic, natural, sustainable, and renewable products is a stepping stone on the path to that goal.

How do we end our blogs? Just like this;

Peace,

Phil and Nashua,

Founders of The Organic Warriors.

Health and Wellbeing

The Health section of our website offers some interesting, thought provoking videos and information. Check it out by clicking here or selecting “Health” in the menu above. As always, feel free to comment when you get there.

The Hippocratic Oath is taken by all new physicians. The majority of doctors become doctors because they have the best intentions. They want to help and heal people. However, there will always be those that will ramble it off as though it were an annoyance or an impediment to them going out into the world and making squillions of dollars.

A select few of these new physicians take the oath very seriously. They are the physicians you need to be dealing with. They are more difficult to find.

The Hippocratic Oath (Classical Version.)

Hippocratic Oath

The first translation to English from the original Greek text goes as follows:

I swear by Apollo the Healer, by Asclepius, by Hygieia, by Panacea, and by all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will carry out, according to my ability and judgment, this oath and this indenture.

To hold my teacher in this art equal to my own parents; to make him partner in my livelihood; when he is in need of money to share mine with him; to consider his family as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they want to learn it, without fee or indenture; to impart precept, oral instruction, and all other instruction to my own sons, the sons of my teacher, and to indentured pupils who have taken the physician’s oath, but to nobody else.

I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but never with a view to injury and wrong-doing. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion. But I will keep pure and holy both my life and my art. I will not use the knife, not even, verily, on sufferers from stone, but I will give place to such as are craftsmen therein.

Into whatsoever houses I enter, I will enter to help the sick, and I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm, especially from abusing the bodies of man or woman, bond or free. And whatsoever I shall see or hear in the course of my profession, as well as outside my profession in my intercourse with men, if it be what should not be published abroad, I will never divulge, holding such things to be holy secrets.

Now if I carry out this oath, and break it not, may I gain for ever reputation among all men for my life and for my art; but if I transgress it and forswear myself, may the opposite befall me.

The Hippocratic Oath (Modern Version.)

The modern version goes like this:

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife or the chemist’s drug.

I will not be ashamed to say “I know not,” nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient’s recovery.

I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person’s family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.

I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.

If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

—Written in 1964 by Louis Lasagna, Academic Dean of the School of Medicine at Tufts University, and used in many medical schools today.

So Here’s a Thing.

We went looking for a video of the Hippocratic Oath to put in this page. There were quiet a few videos with the Hippocratic Oath. Unfortunately they were either;

  • not very good quality or;
  • they were good quality but they were always sponsored by some healthcare or hospital group.

That’s not what we are about at The Organic Warriors. We are not so naive as to say there is no need for hospitals or healthcare companies, for surely, there is in the case of life threatening emergencies.

However, the majority of the current medical system is more enamoured with treating disease for profit and cares little for looking at the CAUSES of the health problems and paying PROPER credence to the Hippocratic Oath.

Body

Body and Bath products have come a long, long way since the days of the old Sunlight® bar soap in the shearing shed. And they continue to advance into the past today.

What on earth does that statement mean? It seems that all our “advances,” in product development were already known to different peoples of the world hundreds, or even thousands of years ago. What we are “discovering” now is not really discovery at all but merely the recovery of lost information. This realisation adds a new concept to the old saying, “All progress is backwards.”

The big revolution in Body and Bath products is that of the small artisan producers of superb quality goods. Actually, this is across all categories of products we use in daily life.

For example, these days it is entirely possible for a small organic or natural skincare producer to have, in our opinion, a far superior product to the big players and at very competitive prices to the big players.

Reviews

So many products, so little time! With more and more…..and MORE new organic and natural products coming onto the market do you find it a little overwhelming to choose products for you and your family?

Fear not intrepid Organic Warrior! We are happy to be your personal guinea pigs. We will personally try and review products and report back here. As you begin to discover if your tastes and preferences align with ours you will be able to choose products quickly based on your trust in us.

Your trust in us IS our number one goal. We do not want to be another tacky site that recommends based on the incentive amount for us.

We will recommend honestly and fairly comparing products against what we have already used. All opinions are our own and we NEVER accept payments for positive reviews. As we use more products, our evaluations may change according to our experience and what we have previously used.

While you are looking at any reviews here at The Organic Warriors we would like you to keep in mind that we are comparing products from like minded companies that use all natural, organic, or a combination of both for their ingredients. The companies that produce these products are trying to produce exceptionally clean and responsible products for their end users. We do not consider these companies to be in competition with each other. Rather, we see them as allies with the competition being the massive corporations who manufacture products that cause harm to a largely unaware public.

Our rating system at The Organic Warriors consists of a scale of “Tree Huggin’ Hippies,” that ranges from 0 to 5 with half increments. If you see a product and it does not have a high Tree Hugging Hippie score it does not mean it is a bad product. It would not be on our site if it were a bad product. If we were to compare any of the products here to the majority of their counterparts on the shelves in supermarkets the results would be as follows:

Products Here: 5 Out Of 5 Tree Huggin’ Hippies

Most Products On Supermarket Shelves: 0 Out Of 5 Tree Huggin’ Hippies

About Us

G’day, we are Phil and Nashua, The Organic Warriors.

Phil and Nashua
Phil and Nashua doing the duck face in Thailand, March 2015

So what about us? We are from sunny, downtown Perth in Australia. We are your average everyday people who started paying attention to stories about the use of nasty chemicals and fillers in the products we use daily at home. You know, things like food, soap, toothpaste, household cleaning products, shampoos, deodorant, sunscreen, and skincare. We began to realise the list goes on and on as you delve deeper and deeper. We started to get curious about the stories we were hearing and began our own personal investigations trying to figure it all out (thanks Google!). In the end it all came down to quiet a simple principle.

ORGANIC AND NATURAL PRODUCTS WORK, ARE MORE BENEFICIAL TO OUR BODIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT, AND MORE ECONOMICAL IN THE LONG RUN THAN WHAT IS MORE COMMONLY AVAILABLE AT MOST SUPERMARKETS AND SHOPPING OUTLETS.

However, this is beginning to change slightly with those big grocery stores starting to introduce small natural product sections after catching wind of the fact that people do not want to be exposed to harmful, and toxic substances in their environment anymore. That social awareness and responsibility is on the rise and people want products that will not be harmful to the environment either. Despite this, tricky labeling laws in Australia allow a product to be labelled “natural” if contains as little as just 5% natural ingredients! We imagine the situation would be similar in other westernised countries. So it is important to educate yourself and note that there are varying degrees of natural.

A little about Phil…..Phil in Phuket, Thailand.

I was your average kid growing up in rural Australia. When I got sick as a kid I was given cough syrups, throat lozenges, and aspirin. Basically the normal things we, in western society, are taught to do when we get ill. That commonly meant a prescription for antibiotics after a doctors visit. This was in the 80’s when antibiotics were doled out like lollies. (That’s candy for the Americans and Canadians. 😉 ) And for kids and adults today? Well it’s much the same, if not worse!

I was very skinny, quiet poorly actually, VERY small for my age, and had the tell tale yellowy tint to my teeth that is common with the overuse of mainstream western medicines and antibiotics. When I was about 11 or 12 I distinctly remember thinking to myself, “right, that’s it! I’m done with antibiotics.” I do not know why I was so direct and adamant about the subject. I just was. As I grew older and moved away from home this ethos extended to more medicinal products like the well known paracetamol and pseudoephedrine brands. Now that I am a crotchety old man the move to natural and / or organic products is expanding and accelerating, hence The Organic Warriors were born.

A little about Nashua…..Nashua bushwalking in "Heaven," Perth.

My childhood was a bit less “average,” than Phil’s. I am an Ethiopian who was born in Sudan in the 1980’s. I am Ethiopian but I have never actually been to Ethiopia. “What?” I hear you say. Let me explain. During the 80’s before I was born there were bombs and guns going off all over the place where my Mum and Dad were living in Ethiopia. They decided the situation was so bad they would rather travel, on foot, braving starvation, lack of water, exposure, soldiers with itchy trigger fingers, and worst of all, cannibals, yes it’s absolutely true, cannibals, to get refuge in Sudan!

After having six kids my Mum and Dad separated and we went with our Mum. My Mum, five siblings, and I literally lived and begged in the streets of Khartoum. If I were to describe that time of my life on the streets of Khartoum in one word, it would be “Dust!” Everything was covered in dust including my siblings and I. Being Orthodox Christians in a Muslim country and all the complexities related to that just added a little cherry on top! LOL. Suffice to say, in the end a very nice Egyptian man and a very nice Australian man from UNICEF got us to Perth in Australia as refugees. I remember getting here and thinking Australia was actually heaven! The grass was so green, there were trees everywhere, plants and birds. Then something unbelievable happened. The mother of our sponsor family GAVE me an APPLE!….. For me to eat!!!! There were apples in a bowl on the table! In Khartoum I used to see apples and salivate at the wonder of what they tasted like. They were an absolutely rare luxury for us there, and here I was in Australia holding an apple in my very own hands. Heaven!

Over time I realised some food in Australia tasted very different to Sudan. One very vivid memory was milk. I used to love milk in Sudan. We used to get fresh milk and when I tasted milk in Australia, it was very wrong. But my favourite milk was the ultimate in organic. Straight from my pet goats Shashu and Gormier! These days, the only milk I drink is organic coconut milk or organic almond milk and I have become an Organic Warrior.

We want to live cleaner for our own health and encourage others to make small changes that, when made by people en masse, help the environment and all of us in a big way. Thanks for dropping by our site and please feel free to contact us with support or questions any time.

Peace,

Phil and Nashua,

Founders of The Organic Warriors.
